Grass Roots Program

Grass Roots Program

Sheila Ritter, Chairman

The OAC is looking with great interest toward the future of the arts in our community by nurturing appreciation and understanding of the fine arts in our school age children. The Grass Roots Program was piloted in 1980 and brings professional artists to children through the local school in cooperation with the Parent-Teacher Organizations and with additional funding provided by the Carrie Winters Trust and our membership. Richland County children are exposed to drama, music, dance, and visual artists through the performances and workshops of the Grass Roots Program.

Events for Grass Roots Program

During the 2025-26 school year, we welcomed several performers at the Elementary School and St. Joe.
Oba William King, a poetic storyteller for grade K through 6th.  Jason Lyle Black performed "100 Hits of Stage and Screen" for the 4th to 8th graders. Karen Montanaro, dance and mime performer, entertained grades K though 8th. And Mike Anderson, "The Dulcimer Guy", had music and storytelling for grades K though 8th.
